Snow Days is an arts-based research project exploring the creative process through the lens of 28 people as they maneuver through one of the coldest months of the year.

Xenia’s February 20th Documentation
So yesterday I was trying to tie dye some shirts but ended up making kind of a mess in my back yard. This turned into a fun full scale pink disaster documented here. I want to see what my landlord thinks about this. Ultimately I’m hoping the pink will spread into the back alley when it rains. I guess we’ll see?
Bio

A few things about me: I am an Artist and curator based in Toronto. I was born in Russia, and I lived in Israel for a while. I moved to Canada 10 years ago.
As a curator, I started the space the whitehouse, which is a 30 person studio in Kensington Market. We have been running for 2 years. I curate exhibitions, talks and happenings at this space and others. I’m also On the BOD at Mercer.
As an artist, I’m interested in personal and fleeting sensations, de ja vus, regrets, stuff like that. I make a variety of work in many different medium and nothing I make is ever like anything else. I like things that are special, to me or in general, that have a special quality, a story or something.
Motivation
I was interested in the Snow Days project because I often work on the fly: i go into the studio and start making things and sometimes its all garbage and sometimes its the best. I am inspired by everything around me and the weather plays a big role in how I feel and what my thoughts are. I feel like it can really put you somewhere, in a frame of mind, like the weather can make you nostalgic for something that you may or may not have experienced, an idea of yourself that you experience in your imagination or a distant memory. It can also really bring you down. Or up? i would like to experiment with how the weather affects lighting, matter, moods.
